«Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph» : nouveau propriétaire

Le plus vieux journal de Québec a un nouveau propriétaire. Pierre Little, un homme d’affaires de Moncton, vient de faire l’acquisition du Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph.
Le plus ancien journal anglophone au Canada était à vendre depuis l’automne dernier. Karen MacDonald, son ancienne propriétaire, a plié bagage pour Montréal afin de prendre la direction du service des nouvelles du réseau Global. Elle était donc à la recherche d’un successeur.
M. Little a plus de 15 ans d’expérience dans le domaine des journaux. Il est déjà propriétaire du Atlantic Business Journal et du Brunswick Business Journal. Le prix de la transaction n’a pas été dévoilé.
Au cours d’un bref entretien téléphonique avec Le Soleil, M. Little a affirmé être « très heureux de cette acquisition ». L’homme d’affaires déménagera à Québec avec sa famille au cours des prochaines semaines.
M. Little s’engage à poursuivre la mission du Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph, qui est au service de la communauté anglophone de Québec depuis 1764.
Le site Internet du journal sera notamment revampé pour devenir un site participatif ouvert à toute la communauté anglophone de la province. Les gens seront invités à y ajouter textes et photos, avec la possibilité d’être publié dans l’hebdomadaire.
Michèle Thibeau, journaliste et adjointe à l’éditeur, se réjouit de cette nouvelle. « On est content que la vente soit conclue et que le journal continue », dit-elle.
Avec un tirage d’environ 2000 exemplaires, le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph compte six employés et est lu par 6000 personnes chaque semaine. | |

Quebec City, July 28, 2007 – Pierre Little, Karen MacDonald and François Vézina of the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph jointly announced today that an agreement had been reached for the acquisition of the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph, North America’s oldest newspaper. It is published and distributed weekly in the Quebec City Area for the English-speaking community.
By agreement with both parties, the purchase price was not announced.
The transaction, which is structured as an asset purchase, also includes the acquisition of www.QCTonline.com, which will be re-developed as a community participation website, to enhance readership participation and interaction online, giving the English-speaking community throughout Quebec a voice in their communities, with the ability to submit news, photos, and articles to be published on the site with the possibility of being featured in the printed weekly version.
The announcement was made jointly by Pierre Little, of Moncton, New Brunswick who will take over as Publisher, and Karen MacDonald and François Vézina the current publishers of the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph. Macdonald and Vézina made the difficult decision to sell the paper last fall after relocating to Montreal for professional reasons.
Little has over 15 years experience in the newspaper publishing field, with extensive background in new online media technologies which are changing the news business around the world. He currently owns the Atlantic Business Journal and the Brunswick Business Journal.
Little said that this investment in the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph is both an affirmation of his belief in the vibrant Anglophone community in Quebec City and a continuing opportunity to be of service to the community and the businesses who promote their services in its pages.
Little said he is very humbled by the opportunity to serve in the long list of distinguished publishers of the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph. As the oldest newspaper in North America, the QCT has been serving the community for nearly 243 years. That makes it a most unique experience for any publisher and he hopes new readership interest will be the result as he strives to serve the community’s interests.
The Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph has a weekly readership of 6000. It is the only English language newspaper in the Quebec City area. Founded in 1764 by William Brown, it is the dean of newspaper properties in Canada. | |
